Warehouse Shipping/Receiving & Yard Associate (CDL Required) – Baton Rouge, LA
Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable, hands-on Warehouse Shipping, Receiving & Yard Associate to support daily operations across our warehouse, office, and laydown yard. This role is critical to ensuring all incoming and outgoing materials—primarily HVAC and industrial equipment—are properly received, inspected, organized, and prepared for delivery.
This position also requires CDL driving capability, including transporting materials as needed. The ideal candidate has strong warehouse experience, understands proper loading and transport requirements, and takes ownership of both operational execution and facility upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving
- Receive inbound shipments and verify quantities against packing slips, purchase orders, and submittals
- Inspect all incoming materials for damage, defects, or discrepancies
- Validate equipment and materials against project submittals and specifications
- Document and report any freight damage or shortages immediately
- Coordinate with internal teams regarding discrepancies or missing items
Material Handling & Warehouse Operations
- Safely unload trucks using forklifts or other equipment
- Organize and store materials in designated warehouse and laydown yard areas
- Maintain accurate inventory and assist with tracking and tagging materials
- Stage materials for upcoming deliveries or project needs
- Maintain clear labeling and organization of all stored equipment
Loading, Delivery & Driving
- Load trucks and trailers for delivery in a safe and efficient manner
- Ensure proper weight distribution and load balancing
- Secure loads using straps, chains, and other tie-down methods
- Protect materials from damage during transport
- Operate company vehicles (including CDL-required trucks) to transport materials as needed
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Ensure all loads comply with DOT/CDL regulations and company safety standards
- Maintain delivery documentation and logs as required
Yard & Facility Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of warehouse, office, and laydown yard
- Perform general cleaning duties (sweeping, trash removal, debris cleanup, etc.)
- Assist with lawn care and exterior upkeep (mowing, weed control, basic landscaping)
- Ensure yard is properly organized for accessibility and safety
- Identify and address potential safety hazards
General Support
- Assist with cycle counts and inventory audits
- Support team members with material pulls and project preparation
- Follow all safety policies and procedures
- Maintain equipment (forklifts, tools, vehicles) in good working condition
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) in good standing
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, load securement, and transportation compliance
- Proven experience operating CDL vehicles and transporting equipment/materials
- Ability to properly load, secure, and transport heavy/oversized materials
- 2+ years of warehouse shipping & receiving experience (industrial or HVAC preferred)
- Strong attention to detail, especially with item validation and documentation
- Ability to read and interpret packing slips, purchase orders, and submittals
- Experience operating forklifts (certification preferred)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and working in a hands-on environment
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling HVAC equipment and related materials
- Familiarity with “hot shot” trucking (pickup and trailer operations)
- OSHA certification or safety training
- Basic computer skills for inventory and documentation
Work Environment & Expectations
- Warehouse and outdoor yard environment (heat, cold, dust, etc.)
- Frequent lifting, bending, and equipment operation
- Driving and operating CDL vehicles as needed
- Standing and moving for extended periods
- Working around heavy equipment and materials
